Real Talk

The oscillating multi-tool is one of those power tools that seems gimmicky, right up to the moment you use it. It’s in the moment when you are standing there staring at your project wondering, how am I going to make this happen, that you begin to realize the true versatility of an oscillating multi-tool (OMT). While they have been around for many years now, OMTs are still been reinvented and updated as time goes, and this SKIL oscillating multi-tool is no exception.

This PWRCore 20™ Brushless 20V Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit with PWRJUMP™ Charger (OS5937-10) runs on the SKIL PWRCore 20™ volt battery system, and the kit includes (1) PWRCore™ 20-volt 2.0Ah lithium battery and (1) PWRJUMP™ 20 volt charger, so you can get to work right away. With the included 2.0Ah battery I was able to get roughly an hour of operation but let’s be honest, OMT chew through batteries like crazy, and honestly who runs an OMT for an hour straight, they are almost always the tool you grab for the one-off oddball cut, or to notch an outlet box out of drywall. This OMT has plenty of power to tackle all of your tasks ranging from grout removal, scraping tile or thin-set during removal, cutting out drywall, sanding wood and getting into tight corners, and many more honestly with as many attachments as are currently on the market for OMTs you can accomplish just about any task necessary.

With it’s 3.6° oscillation angle it has exceptional cutting efficiency, and the 6-speed adjustable dial you are able to really hone in on how you want to approach the work piece. Another great feature on this tool that works better than I expected it to is the Vibration Reduction System (VRS) which isolates the tool head from the body to reduce the vibration that makes it to the users hands, and helps to reduce user fatigue especially during those harder cuts where the tool is really working.

Two great features on this tool that I really appreciate are the inclusion of the (2) LEDs which are plenty bright and illuminate the entire work area, and the tool-free attachment change. The tool-free attachment change works easily and doesn’t require an obscene amount of force to unlock it, nor does it pinch my hand like other brands have seemed to do in the past.

Overall I think this is an excellent tool, and would make a great addition to any home shop, it treads a fine line between high-quality and built well, yet still hitting the market at an extremely competitive price point. This tool feels to be of a higher quality than other brands at this price point and you can tell that SKIL has gone to great lengths to reinvent themselves over the last few years.

Final Takeaways

The SKIL OS5937-10 PWRCORE 20 Brushless 20-Volt Oscillating Multi-Tool is an excellent buy for any home shop to tackle all kinds of odd-jobs needing done. At its current price, and with all the other great quality tools on the SKIL 20-Volt battery platform, I say buy it. If you’re already invested into a different battery platform, I would pass on this one and look to see if an oscillating multi-tool is offered on your platform.
