Real Talk
The new Hilti SFE 2-A12 multi head drill driver is designed specifically to reach into places that a common tool in it’s class cannot. With it’s four interchangeable attachments the Hilti SFE 2-A12 is able to access those tough to reach spaces that users typically find themselves scrambling to piece together multiple extensions and offsets in order to accomplish their task, which will in turn be able to easily save the user time and money on the jobsite.
With it’s ergonomic design, the Hilti SFE 2-A12 provides maximum comfort for it’s users, while retaining a subcompact size. The drill driver comes in at just 5.2" long, 8.7" tall (including 4.0Ah battery) and only 2.3 lbs. (including 4.0Ah battery).
The four attachments included with this drill driver are similar to those included by other brands, with one (in my opinion, major) difference. The four attachments are a 1/4” quick connect hex, 90-degree (Right Angle), Offset driver and 1/2” Metal Keyless Chuck. The last of those being the biggest difference from other brands drill drivers. Hilti is the first (and currently only) manufacturer to offer a 1/2” chuck in a 12-volt installation drill driver. This will allow (obviously) for larger drill bits to be used with the tool.
This drill driver has 301 in.-lbs. of torque which will provide plenty of power to drive 4-inch screws into studs, cut holes in cabinets with spade (paddle) bits, and in a pinch even use certain hole saws.
The first thing I notice when getting the Hilti SFE 2 A-12 in my hands is the comfortable grip size and the overall light weight of the unit. With the included 4.0 Ah battery, the drill driver comes in at a mere 2.3 lbs. However, when compared to others in the installation drill driver class Hilti tops the charts, though not by much as the lightest competitor is the Bosch FlexiClick which comes in at 1.8 lbs. with a 2.0 Ah battery attached.
Another major selling point of these installation drill drivers’ is the ability to drill holes and drive screws in extremely limited access spots, when using the included offset attachment the Hilti SFE 2-A12 is able to drive a screw in as close as 0.53” from an inside corner (to the center of the fastener).
Additional Features
Great for reaching behind pipes
Can fit inside recessed can lights
Easily drive fasteners inside cabinets
Pricing
As of writing this, you can pick up the bare tool for $209.00, or as a kit with a charger and (2) 4.0 Ah batteries included for $342.00.
What’s Missing
The Hilti SFE 2-A12 does not come with a belt hook included, one can be purchased separately however for the price and industry standard, I feel it should be included with the tool.
Final Takeaways
The Hilti SFE 2-A12 Multi Head Installation Drill Driver is a great addition to the installation drill driver class. With the quality that Hilti is known for backing this tool, I am confident that it will be in use and in my tool bag for a long time to come. If you are a cabinet installer, electrician, HVAC technician or anyone else who often finds themselves working in tight quarters and struggling to piece together a hodge-podge of extensions and offsets, this drill driver will be a great addition to your tool arsenal.
